How does stardust get out of a star?

When some massive stars reach the end of their lives, they explode in a supernova. The explosion scatters the elements they made far across space, where the dust eventually forms new stars, planets, and life.

Stars are like giant cooking pots. Deep inside them, super hot stuff smashes together to make all the different things in the universe: oxygen, iron, carbon, calcium, everything!

How does it get out of the star?

When some big stars get really old, they go BOOM. They explode and shoot all the stuff they cooked far out into space. Those tiny pieces drift around for a long time, until they bump into other things and form into new stuff: planets, oceans, trees, kids.
